Hang on Tight!
I can't believe that we are getting close to the end of the year. From here on out, it will be wild and crazy! Demerits are in full swing at this point so please encourage and monitor your child's homework. We have so many fun activities coming up that we don't want students to miss any of them. We are in desperate need of parent support for these end of the year activities. Keep a look out for announcements of upcoming events. We would love to have you come and participate!
Don't forget to check www.yourhomework.com for the daily assignments and due dates!
Science
We are finishing up with Plate Tectonics and moving on into Earthquakes and Volcanoes. In the computer lab, we are working on a project "Musical Plates" that incorporates plate tectonics and earthquakes.
Social Studies
Toga was a GREAT success! Many thanks go to our parents who helped out. The kids had so much fun and it looked like the parents were enjoying the day as well. Again, thank you to all who volunteered. Our mummifying project is coming to a close and will be on exhibit at Open House. The model city project criteria went out before Spring Break and it will be due on Open House.
Language Arts
In literature, we have been focussing on literary analysis and comprehension. Vocabulary has been a big part of our studies as well. We have been reading a variety of genres of literature and the kids are getting to know some authors. We finished reading The Cay by Theodore Taylor and are now working on the final project for the book. We will be returning to the anthology for the rest of the year. In writng, we have now covered all four writing types: response to literature, personal narrative, compare/contrast, and persuasive.
Math
We are in the middle of measurement and geometry. Formulas are beginning to swim around in their brains. We will head in to statistics and probability shortly. Students take tests and quizzes routinely so it is easy to see how they are doing. Please encourage them to ask questions and seek out help when they don't understand a concept.
